Lost in Woy Woy

Recently I had the chance to take my oldest son to a swimming carnival in a place called Woy Woy, a name which means "much water" or "big lagoon". Woy Woy isn't that far from where I live, maybe a drive of an hour or so, but it's not a place that I visit regularly. In fact, the last time I was in that area was the same time last year for the same swimming carnival.

As my son and I left the aquatic centre, we started driving in what I thought was the right direction but it quickly became apparent that was not the case. None of the buildings looked familiar, the school we passed on the way there was nowhere to be seen and somehow we found ourselves lost in Woy Woy. I'm not sure how it happened, maybe it was a wrong turn or because of the torrential rain that had been falling all day, but ultimately we ended up in an area we didn't know and had no idea how to find our way home.

Have you ever found yourself in that situation in your life? Perhaps you felt like you were heading in the right direction but then a wrong turn here or there has seen you end up in a place you never thought you would be? Maybe you have recently been divorced and you are struggling to put your life back together. It could be that the last couple of years have turned things upside down so much that you simply don't recognise yourself any more.

Financial collapse, addiction, an unforeseen job loss, the death of a loved one and so many more unexpected turns in the road of life can make us all feel like we are lost in Woy Woy from time to time. Yet the good news is that when we feel like that, there is someone who can help you find your way back to the right road, no matter how lost you might feel.

His name is Jesus and He promises to help get your life in the right direction. In The Message translation of John 14:6 Jesus says "I am the Road, also the Truth, also the Life." Jesus is the one who can help you find your way back to health and wholeness. Jesus is the one who can bring about restoration and renewal. Jesus is the one who can turn your life around and put you on the right road.

So the next time you feel like things aren't going the way you would like, maybe ask Jesus which road you should be taking. If you do that, you wont end up like me and find yourself lost in Woy Woy on a wet Wednesday afternoon.
