"Dad, I'm hungry...."
This has to be something I hear in my house around 100 times a day. OK, perhaps that is an exaggeration but with 6 kids it's a phrase we hear quite often, every day. We could have eaten just half an hour ago but that doesn't matter. "Dad, I'm hungry....", "Dad, can I have something to eat....", "Dad, what's for lunch....how long until dinner..." etc etc
While I can get tired of hearing these kinds of phrases from my kids, it's evident that our Father in Heaven does not grow weary. In fact, He is exactly the opposite. He wants His sons and daughters to come to Him with a hunger, and to come to Him with a thirst as well. But of course, this is not a physical need, but rather a spiritual one.
In Matthew 5:6 we read "God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied." The Lord wants us to want more of Him. He wants us to devour our bibles, to be hungry for more of the Word of God. He wants our relationship with Him to go deeper and grow stronger. He is more than happy for us to go to Him and say "Dad, I'm hungry..."
And unlike me and my response at times to my kids, our Father in Heaven never turns us away or tells us to wait. Rather, His response is always to feed us, as we read in a verse like John 6:35 where Jesus says "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty."
So if you're hungry today, don't complain about it. Spend time in the presence of the Lord, and you will receive everything you need (and more).
